The City Bags....
SPEEDY: Created in the early 1920s in brown canvas. The name refers to globetrotters. Monogram Speedy, as we know it today was launched in 1959. In the 60s, it set the trend of the carryall bags and was adopted as a city bag all over the world. Henry-Louis Vuitton created a smaller version in the late 70s: the mini HL (for Henry Louis). NOE: In 1932, a French champagne producer asked Gaston-Louis Vuitton to design an original yet useful bag that could hold a few bottles. Initially made of leather, the Noe bag could accommodate up to five bottles, four upright and the fifth positioned upside-down in the middle. With same dimensions, as when launched (with a longer strap in 1977 to transform it into a shoulder bad), it became elegant women’s keep. The contemporary design of Noe is the new SS04 Theda designed by Marc Jacobs, which follows the codes of the original one: the pouch shape closed by a leather lace. PAPILLON: In 1966, Henry-Louis Vuitton, had the idea of creating a new model of city bag he called ‘Papillon’ with cylinder shape and airy design. Created in monogram canvas, it has a modern roundness, a rolled, slender shape, and exists in three sizes. Papillon has been a favourite of some of the world’s most beautiful women from Twiggy to Jane Birkin. In 2002, Papillon was reborn where the monogram canvas was accented with a natural calf skin handle in two versions.

Other versions of Papillon:

  • Papillon in Damier (2002)
  • Little Papillon in monogram satin (black, yellow, lilac and red)
  • SS03 was a reinterpretation by Takashi Murakami: Papillon Cherry Blossom - 1 season only.
  • THE BUCKET: First version came in 1974. It was launched as a simpler version of Noe. It gained worldwide recognition after model Naomi Campbell took it up as her favourite.
  • ACCESSORY POUCH: It was originally designed as an additional accessory for city bags that would not entirely close. Gradually it was transformed and used by clients as a handy and fashionable must-have city bag.

DEAUVILLE: It was launched in the early 90s as a soft beauty case, which was quickly adopted by clients as a modern and practical city bag. It became even more popular with the FW04 ad campaign with Jennifer Lopez carrying it.

The Travel Bags...

ALMA: Created in 1992, it was inspired from a travel bag-line that was created in the 1930s, which had a similar shape. Eva Herzigova used the bag in the SS03 ad campaign. Various versions of the bag are also available in natural cowhide, satin monogram. It comes in a larger version as well as the original travel bags.
FLAT TRUNK: The first Vuitton trunk was launched in 1854 made in finest poplar wood. In 1872, the pattern was striped in order to complicate the motif and avoid counterfeit. The Damier pattern with the mention of ‘L. Vuitton registered trademark’ appeared in 1888. 896 other versions of the trunk are now available globally.
WARDROBE: With the emergence of new fashion and new travel habits, Vuitton developed the wardrobe trunks. The first wardrobe dates back to 1875. Versions of the wardrobe trunk are available in the following ways:
l Hanging closet on one side, with drawers on the other.
l Hanging closets on both sides.
l Drawers on both sides.
STEAMER BAG: Created in 1901 in brown canvas, it was originally a laundry bag for those travelling by train or ocean liner. It is now used as a practical hold all!
KEEPALL: Created in 1924, it was the first soft travel bag ever and the forerunner of the present-day supple bag. It originally came in brown canvas but eventually progressed to monogram canvas in 1959. The Keepall is considered LV’s
best-selling product.
STOKOWSKI DESK TRUNK: The secretary trunk ordered in 1936 by the conductor Leopold Stokowski was inspired from the original LV desk trunk line.
HARD-SIDDED SUITCASES: Around 1880, with the emergence of more frequent and collective travels, LV developed a trunk that was lighter and could be used as hand baggage. Several series and sizes of hard sided suitcases are available to cater to the needs of all the clients.
