Paulomi
Sanghavi
Starting up: Paulomi Sanghavi completed her graduation
in Arts, from Sophia College, Mumbai and then decided to make
jewellery her vocation. She proceeded to Los Angeles, California
to join the Gemmological Institute of America, from where
she graduated as a certified designer. She was also fortunate
to have trained under Bob Ahrnes of Van Cleef & Arpels.
Career highlights: She returned to India in 1995 and
set up her flagship store in Mumbai. Desirous of being in
the thick of things, Paulomi then shifted to the jewellery
market at Hughes Road in 1999, where she started an exclusive
showroom. Signature look: She refers to her work as timeless
and draws a reference to ‘sparkling diamonds set in white
gold’. Price range: Apart from the glitterati, Paulomi also
caters to the women whose needs include a casual range of
wearable and affordable everyday jewellery. Hence, her range
begins at Rs. 5,000 onwards.
Key clients: Her clients include Laila Khan Rajpal,
Smita Thackeray and Manisha Koirala amongst other prominent
Bollywood personalities, industrialists and high-profile socialites.
Season’s must-haves: The current trend is the casual
look and long earrings according to her. Colour stones and
fancy cuts, coloured diamonds set in white gold are in great
demand and are versatile enough to be worn with both western
and Indian casual and formal garments.
Timeless buy: “The most timeless article of jewellery
remains the ‘Eternity Ring’” according to her. Her personal
favourite however, is a long necklace of diamonds set in white
gold. This exquisite creation is also an heirloom that has
been in her family for several generations.
Golden words: She firmly believes that jewellery is
an accessory that enhances the beauty of the woman wearing
it. Hence, the choice of design, style and type of jewellery
would depend upon the personality, looks and structure of
each individual, exclusively.”
