Looking good ‘n how!
The latest blue-eyed-boy of Bollywood, Harman Baweja spills the beans to Deepali Dhingra on how he maintains those gorgeous looks
Growing up did you have any concerns about the way you looked?
I never really bothered about the way I looked during my growing years. I was more of a sports player. Since I was a part of the soccer team, getting tanned and having a rip somewhere on my forehead, arms, legs, was a regular feature. Yes, I was very thin, but I never considered myself lanky. I was 6' tall and had a 26" waist. My mom faced a lot of difficulty while buying clothes — she used to get me a size 6' jeans, with a large waist and get it adjusted at the tailor who sits right opposite the 4 Bungalow Church.

How important is grooming to you?
As a child, it never mattered to me but once in this industry, I realised it's extremely essential —the way your hair is kept, the way you maintain your body. Though I do consider it important but then again looks are important to only a point. Ultimately what counts is your overall personality.

What kind of grooming regimen do you follow?
Everyday I give one hour to my body, be it in gym, sports or dancing. I am a fitness freak, so anything to do with fitness, for me is keeping myself a little groomed. Also having knowledge, like reading newspapers and keeping myself informed about the world, over and above just cinema, is a part of the grooming process.
Are you particular about the kind of skin-products you use?
Yes, I have a very sensitive skin, so I take a lot of care and I am very particular about the products I use. My favourite brand is Biotherm and it has a wonderful range of products for men. These products suit my skin very well.

On any of your travels abroad, have you ever indulged in a body massage or a spa treatment?
On most of my travels I usually take a massage treatment if I get to pack early. Otherwise I request the hotel to give me a late night massage. It relaxes the body after a tough day, gives me a good night sleep and rejuvenates me for the next day.
What goes in taking care of your hair?
I use Kerastase shampoo and a conditioner, which my hair stylist Nalini strongly recommended. Every 15 to 20 days, I get a trimming to maintain continuity of look that I have for my film. I feel it’s essential to have a regular hair stylist who understands your hair and your personality. In case, my hair stylist Nalini takes care of my hair totally and I trust her completely.
Fragrances are supposed to evoke nostalgia. Which one takes you down the memory lane?
Versace Blue Jeans cologne, which I bought from my first salary, when I was working as a waiter in Switzerland way back in 1996 and 1997, when I was studying Hotel Management. Whenever I smell that cologne, I go back to those days.
List the must-have grooming essentials of your travelling kit when you travel abroad…
The very basics — tooth brush, floss, shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser and facial cleanser.

Any particular products you splurge on?
Toothpastes, I love different flavoured ones.
When it comes to women, what's the one thing that attracts you about them?
The very fact that they are women! (smiles)
If you had to dress to impress a girl on a date, what would you wear, which perfume would you spray on and what accessories would you put on?
It depends on who the girl is and where am I taking her. I'll team my jeans with a formal shirt or a casual one according to the occasion. I'll spray any perfume, which is lying in the front of my shelf; I can make it smell good on me (winks). As for accessory, I'll definitely put on a watch, so that I don't end up late for my date.
What's the one compliment you cherish about your looks?
I was in Delhi for the promotions of Love Story 2050, when an eight-year-old girl from the crowd shouted, "Harman you look very cute!" That was the sweetest compliment.
I like fragrances that are sporty in nature and which are completely distinct, like Fahrenheit and Diesel
