Get gorgeousstrands!
Wella Technical Centre at Mumbai gave this writer a first-hand experience of ColorCascadng and her cup of joy is runneth over with the results. Reshma S Kulkarni shares her own ColorCascade escapade!

How would you react when you look in the mirror, and see gorgeous-looking girl with the most trendily-coloured hair staring back, instead of the usual Plain Jane?! You’d be thrilled to bits, right? That’s precisely how I reacted after the hair-makeover, courtesy the Fairy Godmothers (i.e. the colour technicians) at the Wella Technical Centre, wherein they demonstrated their latest hair-colouring technique called ‘ColorCascade’ which is now in India after creating ripples, the world-over.

ColorCascade de-coded:
Hyacinth D’Souza, Friseur Service Manager, Wella India explains ColorCascading, “It’s a spectacular new style of highlights created by to make the mane look rich, vibrant as if it has hues cascading down. The international trend in highlighting, it is picking up rapidly in India after being introduced this May. The time-tested styles of global colour and highlights are fast losing their charm. Recognising this impending but inevitable void in the dynamic arena of hairstyling, Wella emerged with ColorCascading — a technique that combines the goodness of global and highlighting and gives a distinct look!”

The merits:
Speaking about what will make ColorCascade gain popularity; Hyacinth says “Firstly, this is a combinative technique, can be opted for by anyone, irrespective of their hair-type — be it short, long, curly, poker-straight, virgin or coloured. In fact, for applying colour on already coloured hair, Wella has come out with a miraculous Colour-on-Colour range that obliterates the need to bleach the hair to strip it off the earlier colour. Color-

Cascading highlights look great on the whole head, half head or just for specific effects, like through the veil area, or weaved into face-framing lengths.” Further, the technique gives scope to the creativity of the stylists who, with innovative colour grading and fusing techniques that graduate colours in a number of horizontal panels from the root to the tip, can create a seamless and harmonised colour effect.

What’s more? since in ColorCascading the tones used as the base colour are the closest to your natural colour, it makes the re-growth less obvious and cuts down on the re-touch sessions needed!

The experience:
The process begins with cleansing my hair to get rid off the grime to let the colour settle evenly. Depending on my lifestyle and choices, we zero in upon three colours for my cascade effect namely chocolate brown for the base, light mocha for the middle and a light brown for the tips. My hair is sectioned into three levels and gobs of respective colours are smeared on by holding them aloft on foils. There are no pungent acrid smells or fumes that burn one’s eyes as there is reduced ammonia content in these colours.

A climazole machine, which emits heat from three sides, is employed to hasten the process of drying from the usual 30 minutes to 15; after which it’s time for my first post-colour wash. “Right now, the hair is very vulnerable since the chemicals in the colour have opened the pores up. Hence, we use a SP Repair 30 Seconds shampoo and a Magma Colour Touch to stop the oxidation process, close the cuticles to make it less vulnerable and balance the Ph levels,” says Hyacinth. Post the wash, a bit of styling with High Hair pomade and Styling Mousse later, I’m allowed to check out the new me in the mirror….

The verdict:
“Oh! My god! Is that me?” is the only, clichéd reaction I can think of, in that zapped state of mind. My hair feels silky; a mass of soft chocolate-honey coloured that tumbles down. It is seamless and sexy and the hair glints like waves rising from the sea as the sunlight falls on it. So if you are a true-blue hair colour junkie who craves a fix of the hottest hair trend, ColorCascade is the way to go!!
