The Dawn of Innovation
From skeletonised watches to tourbillons with innovative concepts—Time ’n Style presents the novelties that made a mark at Basel and Geneva
Blancpain
Model: Carrousel Volant Une Minute
Description: With this latest creation, Blancpain celebrates the karussel, invented over a century ago as an alternative to the tourbillon. Based on the original concept, Blancpain’s interpretation of the mechanism ensures that it takes only 60 seconds to perform a complete rotation. This patented mechanism is a self-winding calibre comprising 262 parts and a 100-hour power
Rolex
Model: Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA
Description:With the introduction of this diver’s watch—waterproof to a depth of 3,900 metres—Rolex has once again established its supremacy in the field of waterproofness. This reliable and highly precise watch is fitted with a Ringlock System, a Rolex patented case design, which enables it to withstand the pressure exerted by water at great depths. Additionally, the bracelet is equipped with a double extension system that can be adapted to wear over a diving suit.
Cartier
Model: Santos Triple 100
Description:Set entirely with precious stones, this limited edition creation flaunts a mechanism that causes the three-sided dial to rotate, guided by a winding crown. Every turn of the crown unfolds a new face on the dial—a classic design featuring 12 Roman numerals, round diamonds and black sapphires patterned like a chessboard, followed by the face of a tiger. Manufactured in-house, the mechanical, skeleton movement is decorated and assembled by hand. The sapphire crystal caseback offers a glimpse of the double-barrel movement that enables a 72-hour power reserve.
A. Lange & Söhne
Model: Cabaret Tourbillon
Description:With the development of the Cabaret Tourbillon, A. Lange & Söhne becomes the first manufacturer to develop a one-minute tourbillon with a stop-seconds feature. This patented mechanism allows the watchmakers to measure the improved rate accuracy of the tourbillon, while providing a power reserve of five days.
Patek Philippe
Model: Skeleton Watch - Ref. 5180W
Description:This skeletonised watch houses an ultra-thin self-winding calibre 240 movement featuring a 22-carat gold mini-rotor. A look at the inner mechanism reflects the brand’s aesthetic savoir faire. The hours required to create each timepiece ensures that only a few will be available each year.
Breitling
Model: Seawolf Chrono
Description:With this chronograph, Breitling promises a watertight timepiece operational at a depth of 1,000 metres. By developing the magnetic pushpiece principle—the metal of the case is used to operate the controls—the wearer can avoid any direct contact with the pushpiece and the movement. The steel case comes with a decompression valve and features alternating matte satin-brushed upper surfaces and polished sides. Based on this innovative principle, the watch is powered by the SuperQuartz™ movement, which is 10 times more accurate than a regular quartz movement.
