Historical Highlights of TAG Heuer
1860:
Edouard Heuer founds a watch-making workshop in St-Imier in
the Swiss Jura.
1869: Heuer introduces his patented winding crown mechanism.
1882: Heuer patents his first chronograph innovations.
1887: Heuer patents the famous ‘oscillating pinion’
still used by major watchmakers for mechanical chronographs.
1964: Heuer launches the Carrera chronograph, named
after the Carrera Panamericana road-race of the 1950s.
1966: Heuer patents the Microtimer, the first miniaturized
electronic timekeeping instrument accurate to 1/1,000th of
a second.
1911: Heuer introduces the first automobile dashboard
chronograph.
1916:
Heuer invents the first stopwatch accurate to 1/100th of a
second, the Mikrograph. 1920-28: Heuer is timekeeper at the
Antwerp, Paris and Amsterdam Olympics.
1933: Heuer launches the Autavia, the first dashboard
stopwatch for racing cars.
1950: Heuer launches the Mareograph called the Seafarer
in the United States with tide indicator and chronograph functions.
1971-79: Heuer is Official Timekeeper for Formula One’s
Scuderia Ferrari.
1975: Heuer launches the Chronosplit Manhattan, the
world’s first quartz wrist-worn chronograph accurate to 1/100th
of a second.
1985: Heuer joins the TAG (Techniques d’Avant-Garde)
group. Birth of TAG Heuer.
1987: TAG Heuer creates the S/el (sport/elegance) series,
with a bracelet that is to become a brand emblem.
1989: TAG Heuer is appointed Official Timekeeper for
the International Ski Federation World Cup races, and creates
the 2000 chronograph, the first quartz digital display - 1/100th
of a second chronograph.
1992: TAG Heuer is the Official Timekeeper for the
FIA Formula One World Championships until 2003.
1995: TAG Heuer takes part in the Louis Vuitton Cup
and America’s Cup with Chris Dickson and the TAG Heuer Challenge.
1997: TAG Heuer launches the Kirium Series, a watch
combining technology with avant-garde design.
1999: TAG Heuer joins the LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët
Hennessy) group.
1999: Introduction of the Link Series, an emblematic
sports watch. With its daring Alter Ego line, TAG Heuer targets
an exclusively female clientele.
1999: TAG Heuer is Official Timekeeper for the World
Skiing Championships in Vail. 2001: TAG Heuer is Official
Timekeeper for the World Skiing Championships in St. Anton.
2002: TAG Heuer launches Sportvision, its first line
of sports eyewear.
2003: TAG Heuer is Official Timekeeper for the World
Skiing Championships in St. Moritz.
2004: TAG Heuer is Official Timekeeper of the Indy
Racing League and the legendary Indy 500 race.
2004: TAG Heuer becomes Corporate Partner and Official
Timekeeper of the McLaren-Mercedes Team.
2004: TAG Heuer introduces the revolutionary Monaco
V4 Concept Watch at the Basel Watch Fair.
