NEELAM KOTHARI
“2006 will see a major comeback of yellow gold. The chandelier
earrings that have been in vogue will remain popular this year too.
However, they will become a little shorter and more wearable on
a regular basis. Ornaments are going to be more on the lines of
regular wear. In hand wear, large cuffs are going to be in. For
neckwear, people will go for delicate necklaces. Gems, colourful
ones, are going to be very popular. Designs will be a blend of ethnic
and western designs; evergreen timeless pieces will make hot buys.”
QUEENIE DHODY
“I
see accessories like rings being a rage in 2006. We will also see
lot of dull-cut stones and pearls this year. Earrings will be big
but not like the chandelier style; they are going to be more contemporary
and trendy. Little drops and squares, mix of colourful semi-precious
stones are going to be in fashion. In hand wear, I can see gold
handcuffs being popular. Yellow gold will overtake white gold this
year.”
MAHEEP KAPOOR
“This year, diamonds and rubies will remain very popular. Chandelier
earrings are going to stay because today’s generation doesn’t like
to wear complete sets. Chunky rings which are very wearable will
also be on the scene. Necklace pieces like dainty pendants will
rule the neckwear segment. Jewellery trends also largely depend
on the age group. Most women like to have a wide range of jewellery
to go with all styles of outfits. The basic idea is to carry off
anything you wear confidently. Coloured stones like emeralds and
rubies are going to be quite a range. Pearls will be coming back
too.”
PAULOMI SANGHVI
“In
the ring segment, cocktail rings are largely in fashion with bold
motifs and different combinations of semi-precious stones. As far
as earrings are concerned, stiletto earrings are very popular. There
is a demand for larger size pendants with precious and semi-precious
stones such as pink-sapphire, pink- tourmaline either in isolation
or in combination with aquamarines, which are currently in vogue.
Turquoise was the favourite last year and is still being worn by
a lot of people. Pearls are largely used in combination with diamonds
and are very much in demand. The design inspiration is predominantly
western in casual and evening wear. However, the traditional Indian
motif designs are widely used for weddings.”
SHOBHA ASAR
“In the year 2006, the trend for jewellery is going to be of
Victorian and classic style designs. We are definitely going to
see more gems like corals, rubies, emeralds, turquoises etc. Chandelier
earrings will remain popular. With respect to jewellery preference,
Indian classic designs in bangles with bigger diamonds are in demand.”
RITU SHIVPURI
“Chandeliers were in and will remain so for atleast this year.
In neckwear, chokers will be a rage, unlike last year’s chains and
pendants. Jewellery trends will be in tandem with clothes in fashion.
A little of embroidery is still in for the clothes; so also Indian
pieces with motifs for jewellery. Coloured stones like turquoise,
corals, emeralds, rubies will rule the roost. In hand wear; I think
tennis bracelets and cuffs will be in.”
SHAHEEN
ABBAS
“Jewellery is about making a statement. Designs are going to
outlast fashion. Turquoise with gold polish is going to be a hot
combination. Colours are in, especially pink tourmalines. Gold is
going to be hot in 2006. There will be experiments with copper polish.
Basically, mix and match will be out. Pearls will be back with gold
polish. In hand wear, the designs will be big and offbeat. Jewellery
will be about standing out from the crowd. Motifs are going to be
Indian, largely.”
