Glittering love...
Kieeran Manral spotlights the tres chic jewelled trinkets to gift your loved one this Valentine’s Day .

Valentine’s Day originated in the Middle Ages when the knight chosen by a maiden to go out on the first Sunday of Lent was labelled the Valentine. This Valentine was then supposed to give gifts to his partner. Over the years, while the knights have long become extinct, Valentine’s day has gone from strength to strength and today is the official day for lovers to celebrate. If you’re looking for that precious something to gift that precious someone, here are some suggestions on what leading brands and jewellers have on offer for the occasion...
Says Ishu Datwani, co-owner Anmol Jewellers, “There was a time when people wanted to buy only heart designs for Valentine’s, but things have changed now and although the teeny boppers still want hearts, the mature and discerning clients go for items which are well designed even if there is no heart shape in them. The product range for Valentine’s Day varies from rings, tops, pendants, bracelets, to even necklaces and solitaires in some rare cases.”
Jewellery manufacturers too are going the whole hog in ensuring that every declaration of love, no matter what the budget, can be fulfilled through jewellery. If it’s a lean-mean budget you are looking at, many jewelry brands have trinkets on offer from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 4,000. Brands like Sparkles, Carbon, Gili and Oyzterbay amongst others offer pendants, rings and earrings with delicate motifs of hearts and flowers in 18 karat gold set with diamonds and other precious and semi precious stones which make for great gifts.
Some brands offer special products with innovative gift schemes to woo potential customers. Says Marzin R Shroff, CEO - Ishi’s and President Marketing for Suashish Diamonds Ltd, “For this delightful season of love, romance, candlelit dinners and a commitment for life, Ishi’s is coming out with a new range of products to trap these moments and make them eternal.”
The new ‘Transcendental Love’ collection is a unique combination of red and pink gold fused together for the first time, giving it a very contemporary look. The other highlight being its unique product concept of a beautiful transparent case holding small heart-shaped diamonds floating in the air. Also available will be the ‘Forever Ring’ with the option of laser inscribing a personalised love message on the diamond with your beloved’s name written on it for eternity.

“Our range of Valentine jewellery starts as low as Rs.1,000 and extends upto Rs.15,000, thus becoming an ideal gift for everyone to bribe one’s love. And we plan to launch the exclusive Valentine Range never witnessed before with celebrities similar to last year’s launch of the ‘Forever Ring’ on Valentine’s Day. This range has been designed by Ishi’s in-house designers and will be available for Rs. 5,000 onwards at Ishi’s outlets in the leading retail stores across 21 cities and 2 countries.
On the flip side of the wallet divide, Piaget’s Possession Collection in 18 karat white gold set with diamonds in heart shapes makes for an unforgettable gifting option. This special collection of Valentine’s Day pendants in an asymmetrical heart made with a line of diamonds, with a precious stone in the centre - which could be either diamond, ruby, emerald or blue sapphire. This pendant is part of their Limelight Collection and comes in a smaller size without a central stone. Other Valentine options from Piaget include the Collection Possession’s wedding ring in 18 karat white gold central ring set with diamonds.

Louis Vuitton offers the Nail, a symbol of their classic trunk, available in pink gold. A new charm, The Calendar Charm, will be the month of February in yellow gold with a ruby set on the 14th day. Louis Vuitton is also planning to launch a woman’s watch, the Tambour Lovely Red, which is incredibly girly in style with a white mother of pearl dial revealing the rounded petals of the monogram flower with a symbolic heart in red lacquer. Also from Louis Vuitton, for the really extravagant gifters, is their latest collection of jewellery - the Emprisse line - its first jewellery line. The collection uses the Fleur Du Monogram, the Claus and the Mini Malle as the three recurrent themes. Available in chokers, oversized rings, pendants, earrings and cuff bracelets, these timeless pieces, designed by Marc Jacobs, are available in Louis Vuitton stores exclusively. From Orra, you can get classic designs in diamonds inspired by Indian tradition. Orra has created 5 unique pieces based on the five elements, namely Akasham, Prithvih, Agnih, Jalh and Vayuh all set in 18k gold and studded with sparkling diamonds.
